Faith is more than hope and perseverance—it’s about trusting God fully, living with humility, and sowing seeds that reflect His love. At TCI Birmingham, a Christian church Birmingham, we encourage believers to develop trust in God, treat others with kindness, and guard their hearts against pride.
1) Learning to Trust God Completely
Psalms 56:3-4 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?
One can simplify their life by learning to develop trust in God. Far too often, we don’t allow ourselves to trust. Maybe your trust has been betrayed too many times in the past, or maybe you’re just a very independent person. Even so, it’s so critical to learn to trust God. It’s easy to get stressed out and run-down trying to make your life work on your own, but that never works. God’s plan is always better than our own. The person who trusts God knows that His way is best. Now trust won’t just magically happen. Trust grows as we take steps of faith and experience God’s faithfulness. You have to tell your doubt, your fear, your insecurity, or maybe even your fierce independence to make way for a life of trusting in God. When you do that, you won’t have to struggle so much to make your life work. Trusting God brings a supernatural rest to our souls, allowing us to live simply and freely, the way He wants us to live. So even when it doesn’t make sense, trust Him, and experience His freedom, rest and peace.
2) Sowing Good Seeds in Every Relationship
Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.
This verse tell us that we will reap what we sow. Literally, this applies to farming and planting crops. It also applies to giving money and being generous. But did you know that this principle also applies to the way we treat others? We can sow and reap attitudes and words as well as a crops, attitude or finances. The devil loves to keep us busy thinking selfishly, treating people, colleagues, friends as unimportant, sowing words of strife in our families, and thinking negative thoughts about others, etc. The devil wants us to sow bad seed in every single relationship. So many people behave this way and then wonder why people do not like them or treat them the way they want to be treated. The answer is simple; they are reaping what they’ve sown! What are you sowing today? No matter the person, no matter the relationship, sow love, forgiveness, kindness, and patience. You’ll find that as you treat others the way God wants you to, you will reap a life filled with encouraging friendships and wonderful, godly relationships. When we sincerely sow good things, most often we’ll reap good things. So, instead of acting selfishly toward others, I will sow kindness and love in my relationships with all of the people in my life.
3) Guarding Against Pride
Galatians 6:3 If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves.
One cannot emphasise enough the danger of pride. When we give in to pride, we give the devil a place of enormous influence over us. When we think too highly of ourselves, it causes us to value others less, forget to trust God, and ignore the truth that we are really nothing without God. This type of attitude or thinking is detestable to the Lord. We must have a holy fear of pride and remember that we are special and valuable because God loves us and has forgiven us, not because we can carry out great things on our own. It is important to understand that whenever we excel in any area, it is only because God has given us the gift of grace to do it. The moment we think we have accomplished wonderful things in our own strength; we are getting into pride. Remember, we belong to God. Instead of having exaggerated opinions of ourselves, let us focus on God’s greatness and His love for us. It is by His grace alone that we can succeed in doing whatever God is calling us to do.
